It's Dev....right?

He told Jeremy to walk to the trailhead, why? The walk was as long as (longer than?) the hike they were about to take. It would have been so easy for Dev to wait for him and do something and then still make it to the trailhead in time to meet up with everyone else. Something's not adding up, here...
