The case
Nearly six years ago, Jeremy Walden was due to meet four friends. He never showed.
What we know
- Jeremy Walden was twenty-two, a student at Western Washington University.
- He and five friends ran a small amateur club, working local unsolved cases for fun: old disappearances, break-ins that never went anywhere.
- On the morning of Thursday, October 15, 2020, four of the friends waited for Jeremy at a trailhead south of Bellingham. One had declined to come. Jeremy never showed.
- They waited half an hour, then hiked without him. No one heard from Jeremy that day, or since.
- His last phone activity was October 14, the day before. No calls, texts, or bank and credit-card activity came after it.
- The next morning, a friend went to his apartment. Jeremy's car was outside, and there were no signs of forced entry.
- His phone was later recovered, broken. Its condition raised questions.
- Police first listed him as a voluntary missing adult, then reclassified the case as endangered missing nine days later.
- No trace of Jeremy has ever been found. Nearly six years on, the case is cold, and he is still missing.
The timeline
From a morning in October to a case gone cold.
- October 2020 Four friends wait for Jeremy at a trailhead south of Bellingham. He never shows, and no one can reach him.
- The weeks after Searches turn up little. He's reclassified from voluntary to endangered missing; his broken phone is recovered; nothing else is.
- 2020–2026 The case goes cold. The friends' club disbands, and they scatter.
- Now In June 2026, an anonymous message asks us to look again. On July 1, we reopen the case.
The place
Bellingham, Washington
Jeremy lived in Fairhaven, on Bellingham's south side. The hike was to start at a trailhead just south of the city. The others gathered there; Jeremy never joined them, and no one knows what became of him.
